Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator. Other neuromodulators include Xeomin and Dysport.

What are neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators such as Botox and Xeomin are wrinkle relaxing injectable medication. They are approved by Health Canada to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines. They have a proven safety record and they are approved in over 20 countries around the world.

How do neuromodulators work?

Neuromodulators act on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions neuromodulators can temporarily reduce expression lines like the ones on your forehead between your brows. Xeomin, Botox, and Dysport generally work in the same way. Relevant muscle relaxation is usually observed after 2 to 10 days. The effects persist for approximately 3 months. The clinical effect due to general weakening of the injected muscles may last considerably longer. Neuromodulators are clinically proven to last up to 16 weeks.

What does a treatment involve?

Botox or Xeomin treatment is simple and fast. The whole treatment is typically completed within 10-15 minutes. A very fine needle is used and the discomfort is minimal. No anesthetic is required. After treatment you will be fit to return to work or carry on your daily activities immediately. Please advise of all prescription medicines, vitamins, and supplements that you may be taking.

Is there anyone who should not use neuromodulators?

Yes, for safety reasons neuromodulators should not be used during pregnancy and nursing.

How do neuromodulators work?

Botulinum Toxin Type A, the active ingredient in neuromodulators act on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, Botox or Xeomin Cosmetic can temporarily reduce expression lines like the ones on your forehead between you brows. All neuromodulators generally work in the same way. Clinically relevant muscle relaxation is usually observed after some 2 to 10 days. The peak effect is then reached after about 2 weeks. The effects persist for approximately 3 months as nerve endings regenerate. However, the clinical effect due to other factors including general weakening of the injected muscles and behavior modification may last considerably longer. Neuromodulators are clinically proven to last up to 16 weeks.

I can’t wait: When will I see results?

You should start to see a smoothing, relaxing effect within 25 days. The maximum effect is usually achieved within 2 weeks. Neuromodulators can last up to 16 weeks and the average interval between treatments is normally about 3 months.

What can I expect when having Neuromodulator injections?

Is there anyone who should not use Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport?

For safety reasons, Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport use is not recommended during pregnancy and nursing. Do not use if you are allergic to botulinum toxin or any other ingredients of neuromodulators. Side effects are rare and generally not serious. Please discuss any risks with your physician for more information. Make sure to tell your doctor about all prescription and non prescription medicines you take, including vitamins and supplements.

How soon can I resume regular activities?

You will be fit for work immediately after treatment and can resume your daily activities as usual. You can, of course, take a shower, gently wash your face and apply light makeup without any problem.
